In 2012, along with my wife and two very young children (aged 3 and 1), we immigrated to Calgary from Dubai. Although, professionally, we were doing very well, there was something amiss in our lives. And that something was the overwhelming sense of belonging - the feeling you get when you are a part of the community, culture and the general fabric of a place. For us, we found that satisfaction when we landed in Calgary.
Very few people, in life, get to choose where they want to live and the city or country they want to call as their home. We are fortunate to be one of those lucky few and Calgary immediately felt like home to us!
Prior to moving, we had drawn up a list of three cities in Canada to choose from - Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary. Our reasons to pick Calgary were many, chief among them were the city's pace was just what we were looking for - not too big and not too small, easy to commute, lots of sunshine, robust economy (in 2012), entrepreneurial spirit, proximity to mountains and more... However important these factors, they don't even come close to the most important and fascinating thing about Calgary, one that was a pleasant surprise for us - Calgarians!
Calgarians are what makes Calgary great. The people here are among the best in the world. Arriving as permanent residents in 2012 to becoming proud citizens in 2016 and now founding a company, Calgarians have given us nothing but love and have wholeheartedly embraced us. Calgary is where we belong!
